Okay Boom..
Okay boom, so here is the what I'm thinkingđź’:
I took a philosophy class my sophomore year and one of the guiding theories we learned was the utilitarian theory and utilitarianism. For some reason, it stuck with me.
According to Utilatarianism.com ,
"Utilitarianism is an effort to provide an answer to the practical question “What ought a man to do?” Its answer is that he ought to act so as to produce the best consequences possible."
If you read too far into it, you'll get confused. Basically UTILITARIANISM suggests that by using this theory, whatever answer you have to the question: "What ought man to do?" should be for the greater good for the greatest number. Let that sink in. Greater Good for the Greatest Number.
So during my time of perplexity, in regards to answering "To Care or Not to Care? questions in my last post" I used this method to come to my conclusion..
If we live our individual lives concerned about other people's business, 2 fact-based things are happening:
1. We are not living to our individual full potential due to lack of focus.
2. We are fueling some one else's fire or business.
If we live our lives unconcerned about other people's business, 3 fact-based things are happening:
1. We are sharpening our individual tools.
2. We are closer to accomplishing our individual goals and objectives.
3. You are an inactive in other people's business.
Using these facts, I now ask myself : Which scenario does the greater good for the greatest number?
I have come to the conclusion that being unconcerned with the business of other's does the greater good for the greatest number of people. Hear my out, caring about others' is one thing, but being in their business is doing no one justice. Yes, you may fuel their fire, but does this world need fire fuelers or fire starters? Wouldn't a greater number of people be impacted in a greater way if we all individually set ablaze a new trail? What if we all studied a new form of medicine? We would in turn have more theories of medicine. I wholeheartedly believe that team work makes the dream work, but you have to be able to bring something to the team individually first. Thats what makes a team great. Bringing things to the other side of the spectrum, if we were all concerned about what someone else's business, would any business be taken care of? The greater good would not benefit in that manner. Hence, I have concluded that I am no longer doing anyone justice by being "in their business." I am however full invested in mine. In the bag is where I will go and remain. It is an absolute necessity.
Till Next Time..
