#AloneTogether
Updated: Jan 2, 2021
Last time I blogged, we were 3 days into the year. As a new Chicagoan, filled with excitement, I looked forward to exploring the newness of the city the money to be made, the adventures to come, the relationships to grow… Now, almost 3 months later, the whole world has changed completely. No exaggeration, literally the whole wide world.
WTF is happening to the world right now?
Apparently a virus from China has plagued thousands. Possibly even hundreds of thousands of people have died from the diagnosis, COVID-19, also known as the corona virus.
Seemingly overnight, this virus has taken the world by storm. Government agencies and policy makers have set community curfews. Stores, bars, restaurants, and businesses from almost all industries have shut down and closed their doors shut in avoidance of contracting or spreading this deadly virus. No stores have hand sanitizer, rubbing alcohol or cleaning wipes. Oh, or toilet paper.
People with OCD are being tested and tried this season for certain.
Literally most of us are sitting at home, at this very moment during a worldwide epidemic.
Every social media site is buzzing with new dance moves, challenges and makeover videos.
I don’t know how to feel about this. I’m not sure if my feelings even mater at this point.
I honestly don’t know what to say or do, but take the advice of healthcare professionals and stay home.
I’ve heard a few perspectives of what exactly COVID-19 “really” is. From government conspiracy to the world ending, regardless of the reason, this virus has definitely shaken everyone’s worlds from whatever normal once was. Well wishes go out to the individuals who have been forced to stop working, yet still expected to take care of their households. Condolences to those who have lost family members and friends to this epidemic.
Most importantly, praises go out to essential workers risking their lives to serve others.
Decades from now, we’ll look back at this and hopefully realize what truly matters most when the world stops.
Random thought: If COVID-19 was a song lyric, it’d be when Beyoncé said “world stop, carry on.”
Till next time kiddo.
